Returning from my friend's house yesterday, I decided to suss out the whereabouts of the Community Centre where we were due to play bridge that evening, so I exited the motorway at the northernmost point to go into my town and headed all the way into the centre. At the big roundabout, where I was due to take the fourth exit, I was paying so much attention to which lane I should be in that I failed to spot a red light before the third exit and continued until jolted by the loud blaring of car horns.
Once I went into the road I wanted, what did I see but a police car in my rear view mirror, flashing his headlights at me. I was not surprised as I had spotted him a few cars behind me on the roundabout, and my error was somewhat obvious.
So I indicated, pulled over and wound my window down. The nice policeman said "Do you know what happened there?" and I replied that I had missed a red light. He then went on to advise me to take care as I wouldn't want to damage my nice new car.
Never mind damage me, which would have been far more important.
A lucky escape methinks.
The bridge was great fun. My partner and I had never played together before so there were one or two misunderstandings. I made mistakes but the only hands I remember (naturally) were the one where I bid a small slam (as later proved to be correct), but my partner failed to make it and the one where opponents doubled us into game and my partner did make the contract.
The sequel is that I am now having to catch up with my washings (is it really that soon again?)
