Yesterday, I managed to fit in a Tesco delivery, two loads of washing and a most enjoyable game of Scrabble.
Back to the ranch and I boiled potatoes for potato salad. Once cold, I cut them up into a large bowl and added chopped shallots, chopped parsley and chopped chives.
Looked in the freezer, but no cooked bacon., so took some out, defrosted it and then fried it and, after it cooled, trimmed it of fat and added it to the rest. Mixed it all up with Helmanns mayonnaise and, lo, potato salad.
This I served with a good slice of pot roast silverside removed from the freezer the night before and left to defrost.
Along with this, I served iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, spring onions and cucumber.
This evening I served the same meal, accompanied by a glass of Fleurie.
There is a story to go with the Fleurie. I was ordering a case of wine, unusually choosing bottles rather than taking a pre-mixed case and thought the Fleurie was a very good price, so I ordered 3 bottles.
No wonder the price was good. The "bottles" were half bottles.
Never mind, the wine tasted very good.
I mentioned before that TBSITW gave me some Molton Brown shower gel.
When I came back from the Day Hospital, and went into the bathroom, this wonderful smell greeted me.
At the Day Hospital I am starting to see some real progress. Sadly, so are others and I got a letter today saying that as of next week I shall be going only once a week.
Bet this is the thin end of the wedge...

TBSITW
Today TBSITW once again lived up to her name. She came over and sorted out all the jumble of PC cables and labelled them to make reconnecting them after they go to dearest daughter easier. Before she allowed me to delete files she checked that my tiny pink thumb drive actually held all the files from my PC - the contrast is quite amazing. She uploaded them for me using the touch pad mouse which I find rather difficult and showed me how to access them.
Then she checked that the PC was reassembled and left me to delete my personal files. This is now done.
After that, my delivery from Tesco came. Now, bear in mind that I had planned to make the Brussels sprouts and chestnut puree tomorrow. I saw that there were several choices and selected a bag of baby sprouts as they looked nice and I thought they would be easier to shred than the bigger ones as well as less bitter.
What did I find when the delivery arrived? They were not available and some numpty did not think of substituting with one of the other lots of sprouts! This is where I feel so helpless. To make matters worse, TBSITW phoned from Tesco to ask if there was anything I needed and I said no as I had a delivery coming... Enjoyable Tesco Shopping.
All praise where it is due!
Yesterday brought the most disparate of weather systems: some of the time the skies were blue and the sun was shining, but at other times the clouds covered the skies and some of them were ominously black. When the black clouds appeared the wind got up and was really quite fierce; at the same time the skies chucked down so much rain. The rain was just stotting off the pavements and the roads. The lorries threw up so much muck and water it was positively dangerous. First off I went to my GP surgery for my fluvac and then returned home.
Shortly after, TBSITW collected me to go shopping. First we went to a near by town to get some fish, then we had to go to big city to collect a parcel for which DHL had left a card to say they had tried to deliver……. (You know the sort of thing). Anyway we collected that and headed off back to Tesco. It is the first time in a while we have shopped together. It was just so much fun. We went our separate ways and agreed to meet just inside the entrance when we had finished. Usually on my own, by the time I get to the checkout I just about lose the will to live.
This time TBSITW asked me as we met by chance if I had remembered the antihistamine for insect bites. I said I couldn’t find any in spite of searching, but shortly after she came back having found some (it was very low down.)
So, I finished my shopping and found a charming gentleman at the till who put my shopping through and packed my bags for me, and then I went and found a seat at the door to wait for TBSITW.
Now when we arrived there was a table with about 4 chairs and when I came back they were still there, but almost immediately after someone came and removed the table and the other chairs. I said I was just waiting for my sister and was that all right. “Certainly”.
I had bought two lemon sole fillets for my evening meal, but having eaten too much for a very late lunch I saved them for today.

How are the Mighty Fallen!
This morning I had to set my alarm for 7.15. Now this has been rather early for me lately as medication I have been prescribed for pain tends to cause me to sleep in (a nice change after not sleeping for days on end before). I set it because 2 weeks ago, the organic veg box man arrived at 8.20 to find me up and showered but not dressed. Oh the shame of it! I was determined this week not to repeat that! So what happens? You've got it. There I was up, showered, hair dry, dressed bed made and all my favourite blogs read before he arrived!
A very interesting box this week; apart from the consistent potatoes, carrots and onions, I got a purple cabbage (looks delicious), 3 leeks, 2 lettuce - and a PUMPKIN! I'll have to look up some recipes for that as I have never had one before - not sure if it may perhaps be too big for one, in which case I shall pass it on to daughter. Don't say "soup" please - my freezer is 'stappit fu' (this means, in polite English, full to the brim).
Then I had a home delivery from Tesco, and once again problems. One item not available was organic beetroot bunch and they substituted organic beetroot dipped in malt vinegar (yuk - hate malt vinegar), so that went back; and a further 3 important items missing altogether, so I had to go to the nearest Asda to get them. This is becoming a real bore. I lose my temper with either Asda or Tesco on a regular basis, but there is no other supermarket within reasonable driving distance.
Anyway, then cooked tea and went to one of the other flats to help another resident get connected to the internet.
"No problems" thought I.
Well, she had a Tesco disc, so I loaded it but the internet connection failed - on examination, she did not have a modem from Tesco. So I uninstalled the dial-up Tesco connection.
Then found that she had previously had installed an internet connection with BTInternet. So, I set out to renew it for her.
Well, it took ages to proceed from one page to the next, and then on 2 occasions it threw her out back to the desktop. Then in the end it failed to continue at all.
I confess myself stumped.
Not sure if I did it wrong (don't think so) or if it is the fact that it is an old pc with Windows 98, or if it is the fact that it was previously installed correctly and she let it lapse for months at least.
