The Wonders Of Modern Technology

Yesterday, after having disgraced myself over forgetting the hour change and sleeping in for Church, I went to the farm shop quite near by and got quite a haul of fruit and vegetables, then drove on to visit daughter for a delicious lunch of crispy baguette with a choice of crisp lettuce, tomatoes, brie and assorted continental cold meats. For me, the brie won hand down. It was good to see the grandchildren – her younger son was eleven and had some friends round, with an outside entertainment laid on for after I left.

Centre of attraction for the boys was a new Wii game. I can see how they have become much more sophisticated than the old Nintendo, but they leave me cold, perhaps to some extent because of the sounds, which is just noise to me!

While the boys were having lunch, daughter and I were settling in for a good blether while she did the ironing when her partner (M) came through and sat down to play with the wii.

Boys and their toys.

We managed to dissuade him and carried on.

He then came back full of enthusiasm for his new toy – a camera, and went on to take my photograph and then showed how you could get distortions to my picture. He wanted to send me pictures to my mobile, but I had to tell him that my battery was nearly flat.

Daughter then produced a charger, which fitted, so we put my phone on charge.

Later it was time for me to go home, leaving them to take all the boys for a meal and some activity (can’t remember what it was).

Then I drove home.

Shortly after getting there, my phone rang, and it was daughter.

Ah, you’re ahead of me here.

Yes, I had left my phone there!

M, bless his heart, brought it for me, and had to dash back in very short order.

The Mad March Hare

(or hair).

So this morning I set my alarm for the correct time to allow me to get up, showered, dried and dressed prior to going to Church.

As usual, I got all my underwear on and then waited at the computer for my hair to dry before finishing dressing,

Ah, you're ahead of me.

My last alarm clock was automatically time adjusted by radio signal, but I slept through it due to my increasing deafness.

This one isn't.

So I thought I had plenty of time, and now it is 10.51 when I thought it was 9.51.

Oops.

Spring Is Sprung....

....the grass is riz...etc

Friday I got the black wash done.

As an aside, one of the newer residents in this block of flats didn’t recognise me as she said I always wear black.

This was not quite true, but close enough, so I am making a conscious effort to wear more bright colours since.

In the afternoon I went to the residents’ lounge for a cup of tea. Many go for the fish van, but I have rather given up there because of the quality and lack of variety. So, I go to pay my milk bill. The more of us in one place, the shorter time he has to spend chasing people up in their flats. He is a good man and works very hard with few breaks even over Christmas and Easter, never mind public holidays.

Today I got the wool wash done.

In spite of the weather, do you think this might be a sign of Spring?

Cleaning

Yesterday, my wonderful cleaners came. In addition to their job they spotted that my kitchen clock had stopped, fitted a new battery and re-hung it on the wall.

On their way in, they also spotted that someone had knocked the wing mirror of my car in the car park and it had a black mark on it which they removed for me. Said car now received its wash. The jet wash place has a loyalty scheme; every time you have your car washed they stamp your card, then every 8th time you get a free wash, polish and wheel scrub.

When I handed over the loyalty card with my money, I noted that the issue date on it was September 2007.

Ummm.

I blame the weather of course.

Making A Spectacle Of Myself

On Tuesday I got a card in the post telling me my new spectacles were ready.

So Wednesday morning I headed to collect them. On my way from the car park through M&S, I just happened to pick up a couple of items of clothing – funny, that.

While looking at trousers (pants) off its hanger and tucked my thumbs inside the waistband and pulled to see how much stretch there was.

A lady of much my years and girth was passing and turned to me with a sympathetic grin.

Every picture tells a story

Then when I got to the spectacle shop to collect my pair of varifocals and reading glasses, which I got as a buy one get one free offer, I asked about having my driving glasses tinted (as I experience glare). “No problem”, even though it was perfectly obvious from the case that I had bought them from a rival firm. So I chose the level of tint I wanted (half way between two samples).

She said it would take about an hour.

So I went to big chemist, book shop (long browse but bought nothing), to Body Shop and on to M&S for a cup of tea and a cheese scone.

So an hour’s wait cost about £41!.

How can that be?

Back home felt as though I had been put through a wringer, what with a lot of walking and carrying heavy shopping.

The Solution

This morning my mouth is all better; it kept improving as the evening went on.

I think it must have been the stem of my electric toothbrush vibrating against my lips as I have been being extra specially thorough about tooth cleaning.

After all I am a bit long in the tooth now. ;-)

Mind you I rather preferred dickiebo's solution!

Is A Puzzlement....

....with apologies once more to The King and I.

Late yesterday evening I found I had difficulty putting a glass to my mouth (and this made it particularly difficult swallowing pills). The right lateral aspect of my lower lip was numb and felt swollen. In the morning it had spread to my upper lip over and looked very swollen in the mirror.

In fact it looked like a collagen implant gone wrong a la Leslie Ash (and more recently, I understand Nicole Kidman) but in my case at my advanced years collagen would be a complete waste of time and money - so much else would need to be prettied up first!

While having tea and scone at M&S I had to put the food into one side of my mouth, but managed it.

Sadly, here lies no miracle diet cure!

Later in the day I was not entirely cured but much better.

No £500,000 on the NHS for me then.......
