The Hunt Is On.

After the hat night, I took off my mother’s rings (engagement, wedding and another gold band) and put them on top of the chest of drawers. Also there were the excess contents of my usual handbag when I transferred what was necessary into the bag I was using to go out with. I had started tidying up before going to bed and put some things into a plastic bag which already held rubbish. Additionally the bottom drawer of the chest of drawers was slightly open.

I suspect you are ahead of me here.

I ended up finding only the two wedding bands with the engagement ring missing.

First off I had a quick look at the front of the open drawer and then I emptied the bag and had a look through that.

No luck, so gave it up till morning.

In the morning I went down on my hands and knees and looked under the near by furniture, with still no luck. So I emptied out the bottom drawer onto the bed and put everything back carefully. In doing so I found a rain hat which I thought completely lost.

I went to the kitchen to collect another plastic bag in order to transfer the contents carefully from one to the other. Before doing that I had a thorough check on the top of the chest of drawers - no luck, and then took the lid off a little dish .

And there it was!

Phew.

It is not just the monetary value; it is the sentimental value which is so important.

Phew - I hate misplacing things, they might not have great monetary value but heaps of sentimental value..

SOH and I have chosen to use my grandmother's engagement ring, and my mothers wedding ring for me.. rather than buy something new so the memories will be with us always..

Thank goodness you found the missing ring. You must have been more organised than you thought and had actually put it away safely. Breathe again!

I know how that feels, both from my own faults and living with cats who feel that it is their right to confiscate and hide any shiny baubles that they can reach!

I was unfortunate enough to lose a stone out of my engagement ring while on an airplane... and lucky enough to find it sitting right between my feet on the floor of the plane!

Glad you found it, E - and you're right, it's not the money, it's the emotional significance, totally.

when things of an approximate size of your hand go missing and you hunt every where then find in the exact place where you first look but you could swear that it wasn't... we blame that on the house elf. lol
