Yesterday I placed three orders with Amazon.
The first was to Amazon.com for a $ gift token as for my niece’s son for Christmas. The great thing here was that I could print it out on my printer here and so didn’t have to pay postage from the USA.
The second was to Amazon.co.uk for two Christmas gifts for my nephew’s two children.
For the third one, I had placed a Fred Vargas book on my wish list when the site showed it as available for pre-order, but yesterday the message said “not available”.
So I logged on to Amazon.Fr and bought it there (in French, but that’s ok).
Previously I have bought books from Amazon.Ca (Canada) because they were published there and were never published on this side of the pond.

A patient was commenting on this to me, saying she'd found the internet miraculous since it made making a purchase from America easier than making a purchase from her notionally local chemist.
It is an absolute blessing for a shopping-hater like myself, though I do like a rummage around a bookshop still.
The postage from Amazon.fr to the UK I've never investigated. Is it quite steep?
It is 7.60 euros, so a bit steep but not as bad as Amazon.ca
You should have a word with me Elaine, if you need anything from Amazon.fr then. I'm much cheaper than that :)
Many thanks, a. A very kind offer
Amazon has saved my arse more than once with last minute birthday/holiday gift certificates! And of course I'm a huge patron of them myself - I just bought three horror movies for Halloween and they arrived within two days of my order!
AMAZON ROCKS!!!
