"Down Came The Rain...

...It's happening again"

So, of course, I decided to leave my handbag and take my umbrella; I hadn’t yet tried to use an umbrella with my stick, but at least it wasn’t windy…

Got up to the church gates and, oh joy!, found one of the two disabled parking bays free and managed to manoeuvre myself (or rather the car) into it. Of course, my disabled badge was in my handbag, wasn’t it? Oh well, I decided to risk it. So next to get the umbrella up; it was one of these small fold-up ones, and what did I find?

Ah, you’re ahead of me.

It folded up beautifully, and unfolded, but would not stay up.

Fat lot of use that was.

And where was my rain hat? You are right; it was back at the flat.

Well it was quite a walk from the car to the door of the church and the paths were starting to flood, so by the time I got there I was pretty wet and cold. The church heating is not on yet, and even although there was a good turn out in spite of the weather, it did not warm up.

Still, it was a good service, with the minister continuing his series of sermons on the Gospel according to St Matthew, this week chapter 6; about not laying up our treasures on earth but in heaven, He spoke well on the subject, as he always does.

Home now, cold and still a bit wet (but thoughtful).

Time to put the fire on and have a nice Tio Pepe!

Rain, I like rain.

Billy Connolly got the truth of it saying, "There's no such thing as bad weather, just wrong clothing."

Wrapped up right, I can thoroughly enjoy thunderstorms and love to be out on the moors when sheets of snow drift and blow across them.

Our sermon, from Luke, was about acceptance and welcoming people . . . although it's the who0le point of them I always find it odd how sermons can sow and provoke meaningful thoughts so readily!

And working with so many folk so many decades older than your good self I just have to point out, 66 is not old!

Oh Shrink, you always get it so right! My problem (challenge?) was that I had expected the umbrella to work and did not have a back up plan.

I agree about the sermons - I find that I discover more meanings in them afterwards than those I take in at the time.

ps, I agree, 66 is absurdly young. Why is it that middle age is always 10 years older than oneself and old age 20 years (apart from in childhood, when almost every adullt is VERY old!

I still feel inside much the same as I did at least 30 years ago, if not more.

Awww - Elaine I am sorry that your umbrella didn't work and that you got wet but am glad you enjoyed your sermon. Glad you got cozy and warm with a fire and with Tio Pepe. What is it?

I think sermons affect us that way because of what the verse in Isaiah 55:11 says,"so shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall do that which I please, and it shall accomplish that for which I send it."

God's word is alive, the same yesterday, today and tomorrow - the Living Word.

So, I think his word breathes life into our spirits which are eternal as his word is also eternal and so the union of the two, our spirit-his word, link us up to his eternal spirit never ending...but renewing.

My m-i-l says she wonders who is looking back at her in the mirror. :)

Thanks for all of that, Seaspray.

p.s. Tio Pepe is a brand of fino sherry (very dry)
