Today I went again to the Bridge Club, where I partnered someone new, which can sometimes lead to misunderstandings in the bidding. However, we got on well together, and even managed to bid AND MAKE a slam! We played 21 boards which meant we were running late at the end, so I was too late home for the cup of tea.
I heard from someone at the club that a new neighbour (although she didn't know the name) plays bridge, so need to do some detective work here.
On checking last week's scores, I was delighted to find that my partner and I had come first of 5.
The weather today is still cold, wet and windy (typical February)

Was googling around for a quote that starts, "Age is a fact, not a ------" 'cause I can't recall the last word, being senile at 55; instead found your blog which is really enjoyable. Write on!
Could it be "number"?
Welcome to my blog.
I thought I would try to find Kathy's quote using Penguin instead of Google (paper!) - instead found two quotes you might like:
First, from Virginia Woolf:
"It's not catastrophes, murders, deaths, diseases, that age and kill us; it's the way people look and laugh, and run up the steps of omnibuses" (Jacob's Room).
Then, more positive, perhaps not surprisingly from a frenchman, Nicolas Boileau:
"Chaque age a ses plaisirs, son esprit et ses moeurs." (L'Art Poetique)
Can't be bothered trying to put in accents that will only come out as incomprehensible machine code.
I do like the Boileau one.
As to the Woolf one, I can't run up the steps of the bus any more, but I still can and do laugh.
Those are lovely quotes, mikeg. I especially like the Boileau one.
I don't think it's 'number', Elaine, because to my feeble memory, the word had a negative connotation. In, fact, it might have been 'negative' but that doesn't see quite right . . .
Sigh. One of those pointless mysteries that dog at the brain just before sleep.
