Linda at Just another day on the prairie always heads up her post with a quote. They are such a treat to read.
The latest one was:
“What a blessing it would be if we could open and shut our ears as easily as we open and shut our eyes!”
Georg Christoph Lichtenberg
And it really made me think.
As my reader knows, I am somewhat deaf (I hate the phrase ‘hard of hearing’) and have discovered that it can be of an advantage at times. On occasion I have found myself in circumstances where the noise just becomes a bit much and I can discreetly switch my hearing aids off.
On the other hand, when I am in Church, I am so grateful for the t-loop which makes it a pleasure to follow the service.
I do, however, have to be careful to switch them back to normal before being greeted by the minister at the end of the service..........

Hello Elaine,
Yes, can see all the advantages Can't wait !
Oh, not sure that I really believe that!
........there are sure times I'd like to turn people "off"!
Dear Deaf Old Bat (TDMIL) It was lovely to have a chat to you on the phone over the weekend.. I have taught D that if he speaks in a slighly higher register than normal, you can hear him much better!
I too have my hearing problems, so I heartily sympathise with you!
One of the elderly chaps up the pub used to drink there most nights, with his much younger wife. She was as good as gold until she'd had a few - which was most days - and then she would become very 'loud' towards him. All we could hear repeatedly, was, "Brian. You're not listening to me!" No. Because he, too, would turn down/off his hearing-aid, as he winked to us!
