Yesterday was a busy day. The first appointment was the doctor. Now that my swollen face has resolved completely since stopping the blood pressure tablet, she took my blood pressure and it was up a bit even in that short time. So it is a new tablet and a return appointment in a month.
The second appointment was with the dental hygienist.
Fear and trepidation.
She is really a very nice girl. Anyway she offered me an injection before the treatment. Now, I am the biggest feardie you ever met, but I hate injections in the mouth. So we reached a deal; we would try without, but if I was unhappy at any time she would stop and give me an injection.
However, it was not too bad at all and certainly not as bad as I had feared. Even more so it was not as bad as an injection. So she scraped off what felt like 2 weeks dinners, then used the water spray to clean in under the gums. When it was all over she injected cortisol gel in under the gums and into a rather nasty hole.
Sadly she is leaving to go to a private practice. I am sorry to see her go.
After that I went off to visit TBSITW and be introduced to her very lively Springer Spaniel. She is delightful and the two dogs seem to be settling in well together (or at least happily chasing each other around!)
They have now (on a temporary basis) acquired a hedgehog, found captured in a squirrel trap. When I visited, he was settled in a cardboard box with shredded paper and some water. He seems quite lively. Of course, he will be released back into the wild.
I really enjoyed home made chicken soup and home made bread. It was also good to see Le Chef again. TBSITW picked some spinach for me and Le Chef got some potatoes for me so I can make spinach soup.
Today I managed 2 loads of washing and then this afternoon I have made spinach soup. I have whizzed it and put some into a container for freezing when it has cooled.
I am a happy bunny.

I made chicken soup for D yesterday.. he roasted a chicken last week, and has had most of the meat, so i broke the carcass up, threw it in a pan of boiling water with some celery and garlic for about half an hour, removed the "bits" and reduced the resulting stock for a while.
I added chopped celery, broc and pepper to it (oh, and some tabasco) and let it cook.
In the mean time, much to Billys interest, I grubbed the spare bits of meat of the carcass and added all the rest of the meat.
D added a stock cube, and said it was a lovely soup.
Not bad for a veggie ;)
If you get on well with that hygeinist why not treat yourself to her services privately every few months?
The way I justify private hygeinist treatments (actually there is no NHS service where I live which perhaps makes it easier) is:
1. the cost is comparable with a trip to the hairdresser and which do I value more - pretty hair or working teeth?
2. prevention is better than (and probably cheaper than) cure as far as teeth are concerned.
Mind you I've never been offered an injection by any hygeinist to reduce the discomfort of the treatment - I didn't think it was supposed to be that invasive.
My dental practice used to have a very gentle old-style South American lady hygeinist who used to congratulate me on how well I looked after my teeth. I was a little suspicious - did she say the same to everyone? She left recently and has been replaced by a very young girl who uses very modern and uncomfortable equipment. I joked with her that you get a complementary drink and facial shower when she cleans your teeth. It took several days for the discomfort to go after I saw her.
I wonder which style of treatment is actually best for looking after one's teeth - gentle but maybe ineffective or painful but possibly damaging?
Helpful advice. My daughter now gets her teeth cleaned by the dentist as she reckons she was brutalised at the hands of the hygienist. Nonetheless, by the time you reach my age, the remaining teeth are very very precious and I am prepared to put up with anything to keep them.
E - I must ask. What is "whizzing" and why do you do it to spinach soup?
I MUST KNOW!!!

Whizzing is a made-up word meaning using a hand blender!
