I had really not heard of blogs until I read Tom Reynolds’ Blood Sweat and Tea. I found his blog address from the book, read the blog, found it fascinating, and then discovered links to other blogs and from there on to others…..and so on.
After quite some time I started to feel that it was a bit like prying if I read all these blogs, but was not prepared to blog myself.
But where to start. I did what you would do, and did a Google search asking “How do you blog?” I was directed to Blogger Dashboard, and suddenly it was all easy.
I reckoned I would have very little to say, and that the only people who would have any interest would be my closest family and in fact it has served that purpose with elder son, who telephones if I miss a day or so to make sure all is well.
However, like Topsy, it has growed,
I keep finding other things to share and I keep finding new readers. This is fantastic; it is so good for me to get all this stimulus from reading other peoples’ blogs and from seeing other peoples’ comments on mine.
I know that I read some blogs and comment only rarely – usually only if I have something pertinent to say – so I should not be surprised to find that some people comment on my blog only rarely and that therefore I may well have more readers than I have reckoned..
So, writing this blog has opened up new horizons for me. I love finding readers from all over the country, from the USA, from Canada, from Israel, and have been stimulated by them to read more.
With many thanks to a. I have even read a detective novel (roman policier) in French.
Mind you, this has really started something and my friend s. has given me a copy of Madame Bovary in French. Umm.
All these things must help ward off the dreaded Alzheimer’s.

You are an excellent role model - long may your blogging continue, and any other new exploits that are more usually the preserve of younger generations.
I recently visited a residential home for the elderly. In general it seemed quite attractive - pleasant rooms, likeable residents, good meals. However I asked the person showing me round (a volunteer house manager) whether they had broadband. The answer I got was that they were getting digital TV soon. She didn't even know what I was talking about. In my opinion everybody in the UK should have access to the internet, and especially people with restricted mobility. Given the right support my guess is that most people in care homes and nursing homes who are compos mentis could get tremendous benefit from internet access. You are leading the way in this - pioneering - trail blazing even!
Thank you for your kind remarks.
This is not a residential home as such but owner occupied flats with a House Manager. We do our own cooking (no meals are prepared). There is a residents' lounge used for different occasions from Scrabble to Fitness Class to interesting talks - but these are all arranged by the residents, and tea and coffee prepared and served by the social committee, also residents.
Quite a number of us 'surf the net', some of us for longer than others - many while still working. In my case for 14 years, althought I had my first computer 7 or so years before that.
Couldn''t have managed without it.
My journey into the blogsphere started in precisely the same way! I read the book, passed it around, found the site, found other blogs. TLM started blogging and then I wanted a piece of the action!
I'm surprised the amazon gift wrapping is up to scratch actually. I quite enjoy wrapping presents (spent all morning doing presents for my nieces) - I wonder if I could do the wrapping for amazon and if it would pay better than ticking paper all day?
Hope you get to make the pie soon - I made a lovely stew today so I'll document that soon no doubt.
:)

looks like you and I are in friendly competition! Great stuff. Pity I haven't got a digital camera and I don't know how to link it to my pc (oh yes RTFM, I know, but it is easier to get elder son to do it for me!)
Hello, thanks for stopping by my blog. I suspect we face similar hurdles in day to day life! The internet is indeed a wonderful thing, no disabled/older person should be without it. Bendy Girl
