Not a Fall

Yesterday after bridge I came back and had a cup of tea with the Scrabble buddies then went home and had shepherd's pie for my tea. Actually it was half of one. After tea I got down on my hands and knees to mop up a spill, then couldn't get up. In the end it took 2 hours - and I came very close to heaving the blanket, downie and a couple of pillows down and going to sleep on the floor.

However, a last determined effort got me up.

It was particularly disappointing as I had managed at daughter's, including a sleepover, with no aids.

One or two of my readers have been urging me to get one of these "round the neck" alarms and I have asked the House Manager to look into it, as she said she didn't know offhand, but that it was "expensive".

It wouldn't have made any difference with last night as I passed alarm cords more than once.

I think I was just too stubborn/proud/independent/stupid to ask for help again.

Today I have carpet burns to the knees and elbows, and bruised toes.

I have now learned that if something gets spilled it is better to leave it!

Never mind, it will all be made better by this evening's bridge hat night.

I hope you win, Elaine. Especially after your quite long acquaintance with the floor! Did you remember to drain the fat off the mince first? Our cottage pie was luvly too.

Thank you dickiebo, Yes - but there was surprisingly little fat on this mince. May be because it was from Jacobs sheep. Tasted good anyway.

Hello, sorry to hear that you have got more friendly with the floor again! Glad the pie itself was good.. mabye instead of an alarm you could keep your mobile on a clip on your waist, and have the first number in its phone book marked as the warden who could then come get you?

It might be more cumbersome than a thingy on a chain, but one hell of a lot cheaper!!!

Other than that.. mabey a pager??
going to look at them now.

Hello, Elaine, I just wondered that you were able to go down on your knees and was preparing to congratulate you on it when I red (is it read or red???) further through your text . Oh, dear ....

Perhaps you really ought to have an alarm.... my neighbours proposed the same to me the other day.... Actually I prefer the idea of keeping the mobile nearby.

Hello, Elaine, how nice you had such a pleasant bridge party. Right you enjoyed playing and will be looking for the results later on. 22 boards are not too much.

Our Christmas Tournament was really nice too, we also had a lovely buffet with cold and warm food, cheese and lots of sweets, and to begin with in the afternoon what we call "Kaffee und Kuchen" then there were 30 boards to cope with.
I had the pleasure of playing with my favourite partner and best friend, an Iranian lady who is living here with her family for nearly a lifetime. We too had much fun but little success and hope for next years' bridge events.

Parking is troublesome for me too, I usually need two parking lots, otherwise I feel not comfortable..... even if i manage somehow in the end.

Thank you for writing me the other day, in fact we are playing quite the same, nevertheless we have learned a lot of gadgets, but usually forget about them. By the way we are playing weak twos and strong NT.

Have a nice evening - love from Klara

Hello again, Klara

(it is read, not red)

Yes, I am making enquiries about a pendant alarm and will probably go down that route soon,

No, 22 boards are not too much - unless you arrive at 7pm and have a grand buffet, then pick the card which indicates the table you are to sit at, and eventually start playing bridge around 8.30pm (almost my bedtime there.)

We do not have a resident warden here, only a "careline" centre who field all cord pull calls from each flat. Wearing a pendant alarm merely makes access to them easier.
