Keep Fit

Every Thursday afternoon we have a keep fit class, which is sadly attended by only about half a dozen people. Would that we looked like the picture above! However it is great fun and we all do the best we can, looking forward to the cup of tea and biscuits afterwards.

I go because I am not fit and I am sure that exercise must be of some help towards losing weight. I put on a lot of weight after I gave up smoking, but have managed to lose a stone (14 pounds) since Christmas.

Got an email the other day which contained the following message:

Exercise for Older Adults

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side. With a 5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day, you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato sacks. Then try 50-lb potato sacks and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute (I'm at this level). (So am I.)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks.

I confess it took me a moment to get there!

;) took me a moment too - I stopped in horror at the 5 lb bags!

I keep trying to do something about a) getting fitter and b) losing weight. Well done to have lost so much already!
