I wrote last about the really good time I had during my break with younger son and daughter-in-law.
However I did not mention the travelling.
Even with wheelchairs ordered for both airports in each direction, it was still rather stressful. I can’t manage my backpack any longer (which would fit into the overhead locker), so had to take a wheelie suitcase. This meant that I could not check in on line but had to be at the check in desk for 2 hours prior to the flight time. I had to make my way from the car park bus stance to the airport, then to the check-in desk, where – as usual – there were 2 queues and I chose the slower moving one.
After checking in and ridding myself of my suitcase I had to cross the lounge and take a seat till someone came to push me to the plane. They don’t come for 1½ hours, and this is pretty boring – no coffee or shopping opportunities (perhaps a good thing).
The flight was fine (G&T £3.80!!!!!!, and not a nibble in sight).
At the far end son was waiting for me and commandeered the wheelchair to take me to the car. We then set off for what should have been about an hour’s journey. However an accident had closed 2 carriageways, so we took over 2 hours, making it a long day.
On the way home, daughter in law commandeered a wheelchair and took me to check in, then took me back to where I had to wait. She stayed as long as she could but they were getting somewhat anxious about the rush hour.
Flight fine, ate sandwich made by daughter in law with Britvic orange.
Managed the walk to the bus to take me back to the car park, though it took a push and a pull to get me on the bus :-) Back at the car park, there was my car with the engine running and the heater and lights on.
Dislike night driving, but made it home.
We have all agreed that this is probably the last time I can manage the journey alone

Welcome home! We had a lovely holiday in Speyside ourselves, and thankfully no hassles with flying. Even the A9 was civilised, although the car felt very insecure on the way North. It turned out a back tyre was soft with what later transpired to be a screw embedded in it. Tyres tend to be so reliable I forget to check them...
To Mike G.
Glad you had a good holiday. Oops about the tyre, but I can't say anything or it would be something to do with pots and kettles,,,,
It is sad to read that you think you won't be able to manage that trip again. I hope the power of positive thinking, cheap rail travel and/or free buses may make you change your mind S.
We hope to come up next year to see all the family.... Want to see Mike and family.. Want to see Carolyn and her family.. and be lovely to go see (or meet) S and family.. and at some point the other bits of in laws that live up your way.
It will be an action packed holiday trying to fit in so many visits.. mabye we can have a family re union??
We will (ok I will) keep in touch.
much love, A&D xxxxx
