This evening I lost my balance in the kitchen and fell. It took me a long time to get out of the
"horizontal on my back" position to being able to pull myself through to the living room on my stomach and then to - eventually - get up to crawl, using the arm of the settee. Once up to a crawl, I had to crawl through to the bedroom to be able to push myself upright. This all took about 15 minutes.
Sometimes the title of this blog is so, so true. Bugges!

So sorry to read about your fall and hope you weren't/aren't hurt. Take care Elaine!

Elaine, I am so sorry that you fell and had to struggle so. Are you all right?
Please don't be offended by this, but have you ever considered an emergency button to wear if you need assistance? I would hate to think that you were hurt worse and didn't have someone to help.
Do you have these systems in England. I used to work for Lifeline, well actually the hospital who had a contract with lifeline. I used to install these units for people and they where a button that can be pressed to send an emergency signal out to the response center and they in turn contact whoever you designate to help you or call emergency services directly. The unit has a speaker phone that they would try to contact you first after receiving the signal. If no response from you then they call emergency services.
No one ever plans an accident or a sudden illness but these things do happen. My mother never wanted anything like that and then one day she fell and was alone on the floor for 33 hrs. Thank God no broken bones but she was hospitalized for a week. Now she uses the system. timing can sometimes be of the essence.
There are other brands out there but my coordinator always felt this was the best system.
Forgive me if I have overstepped my bounds.
Love that word...pifflebunk. :)
Thank you both for these kind messages.
To Seaspray = everyone here has a pull cord in every room connected to a care call ike Lifeline, so I could have got to the kitchen one relatively quickly; however I have too much pride to do that. If I had not been able to get back upright in the end I would have used it, but fortunately....
The good news is that it looks like I might not have osteoporosis, in light of a number of falls with only bruising (fingers crossed).
Sorry to hear that, hope you're doing well now.
thanks too to the shrink - fine today apart from feeling as though I had been run over by a truck. Carpet burns on my elbows and knees and a fair bit of bruising, but no long term damage, thank goodness.
Should have had me behind you to give you a harder push lol.. (to your lovely readers.. Elaine fell up the stairs whilst staying with us - we joked about me pushing her harder, or trying whilst she came downstairs)
Was it that martini again??
Is there not a song about you should'na push yer Mum in Law off a bus???
Love you very much really...
Anna xx
ooh thats scary, I'm glad you're okay though. Take care!
Best wishes from another regular reader too!
Not a time for rubbish jokes eh? :-)
To the shrink - Oh yes it is; I always joke, and the more serious the illness and the more worried I am, the more I come out with silly jokes. Even on my deathbed, no doubt I 'll come out with something silly and inappropriate.
