My Wonderful Hob

Almost exactly a year ago I had an induction hob installed in my kitchen. It is my pride and joy (and cost far too much money, too, for an old age pensioner). Shortly after installation, it was damaged on the right hand side; I am not quite sure what happened, but suspect I did it with my super gigantic saute pan. It might have been a supermarket delivery, but I doubt it. No problem, after I plucked up the courage to call the factors, they got in touch with the insurers, who okayed the replacement hob to go ahead.

So today, I peeled and chopped the potatoes and carrots for my tea and also trimmed the ends of the purple sprouting broccoli. So I washed and dried the board and slid it into the gap between the oven and the top cupboards, beside all the others.

However, this particular board is circular, so no doubt you can guess what happened.

Yes, it rolled back out and fell, hard, onto the opposite edge from last time.

So I called the factors, and they have asked me to get a quote from the kitchen company.

I cut myself investigating the damage, but I think I will live.

Unless the factors or the insurance company kill me off before I can do any more damage!

Okay, Elaine, I'll bite. WHAT is a hob?

I will try to find out on Google, but I have a feeling I will still need a descriptive from you to really get the picture.

Ah, I think this is another area wheree we speak a different language! In this country, we have cookers in two (occasionally more) parts. Sometimes the whole cooker, with hob, grill and oven are stand-alone, but here the oven and grill are built in to one unit and the hob (usually with 4 or more "rings") is where you put your pans for boiling, fryi ng, sauteing and so on.

Oh! Over here, when we buy cooking "rings" on their own, it's usually just one, and we call it a "hot plate". And ovens here don't normally come with a grill - just oven and hob. It's a big deal (very expensive) to get an oven that includes a grill surface. Sometimes they offer grill surfaces that you can buy and place OVER your hob, so the "rings" heat up the grill from underneath.

Thanks for the clarification. If you feel like posting a picture of the hob sometime, I'd love to see it.
