China - Suzhou

We left off from my last post about China while we were still at Suzhou, having had a cruise from Tongli on part of the Grand Canal to Zhou Zhuang and on our return visited the Tuisi Garden.

While in Suzhou we visited two world famous gardens, the first of which is The Garden of the Humble Administer, which also had typical buildings with grey slate roofs latticed windows and heavy furniture. The gardens were landscaped with volcanic rock from Tai Lake in South China.

There were many flowers, notably azaleas, often in tubs.

There were lakes and waterways....

..and once again the now familiar style of building.

This garden was beautiful and somewhat extensive. What should have been a tranquil experience was marred somewhat by the leaders escorting their various groups, describing everything that was being seen through a megaphone at great volume!

In the past couple of years I've really warmed to far eastern culture, and was very jealous when my best friend went to China when he finished his degree (I couldn't because I had to save for med school)

One day though...!

Good luck in that.

Of course, once you qualify you will be earning so much money and do so little work that you will be able to take as much time off as you wish and be able to afford to travel as much as you wish.

At least that is what the government and quite a proportion of the press would have us believe!

btw I enjoy your blog.

China is somewhere I'd love to visit. We have a big anniversary coming up and it's on the short list! It's always such a pity there are tourists in these places though, isn't it? :)

We went with China Travel Service, run by Chinese, and seemed to get a better itinerary than others did with British companies.
