Today was an interesting day for me. In the morning I had a visit from someone from the Occupational Therapy department, which is a part of the local Social Work Department. I have been finding it increasingly difficult to get up from the toilet, and thought a grab handle would help, however the OT assistant recommended a frame which sits round the toilet allowing me to push down with both hands, while leaving the toilet available for others (unlike another option which I did not fancy). She assessed me getting up from the toilet, getting up from my chair and getting in and out of bed. I am also to get a cushion that sits on the chair and raises me a bit higher.
She offered a frame that gives handles either side of the bed and is anchored by having the flat bit passed under the mattress. I managed to persuade her that I could continue to cope on my own there for a while, and also with the dining room chairs.
All this standing up and sitting down was quite tiring!
However, off to the bridge club again this afternoon. On arrival I scrutinised last week’s results to find that my partner and I had come 5th out of 5 – however it was still great fun. As for today’s games, I enjoyed them thoroughly, and no doubt did as well as last week. This time we had 4 tables and played 20 boards.
Be careful planning, I arrived back in time to have a cup of tea and a chat with the Scrabble players, plus 2 others who came back from their shopping and also joined in.
Now off to see what I shall do for tonight’s tea. Having nothing from the freezer, it will probably involve eggs.

Occupational therapy is all well and good when they remember they are dealing with real people. Sometimes they don't and make recommendations that just don't take into account the lives of the disabled person or those who live with them. I love your blog by the way :o)
To cheekyfaces:
re Occupational Therapy.
I am sorry if you have a less than satisfactory dealing with them, but I found the lady who visited me to be excelent; the frame for the toilet was a better idea than a grab handle which was all my limited imagination could conjure up. She also oferred an alternative frame but accepted that I would want visitors to be able to use my toilet. There were two items which were offered which I declined in the meantime as I can currently manage without. She accepted that decision very happily.
Anyway, I am delighted you enjoy my blog!
Mind those eggs now. They will 'bind' you. Or so I'm told!
To Dickiebo: umm, not to mention anything about cholest@@ol - a bad word in my house!
Delighted to hear you've had that assessment. I hope it makes things easier for you. Called by unannounced but you were still at Bridge. Pity. S.
I have had personal dealings with OT Elaine but mostly my experience comes from a previous job of mine which was care in the community.........Anyway, I'm glad you are sorted out :o)
Careful cheekyfaces,my Mum is a retired Head OT!
Mind you,I used to tease her by asking how many baskets she'd made that day at work....
