In fact mousie Didn't tag me, but I thought this one looked quite fun, so here goes:

8 Passions in my life: (in no particular order...)

1. My wonderful “children”
2. My wonderful grandchildren (all four of them)
3. My sister (the best sister in the world)
4. Reading – mostly detective fiction
5. Bridge
6. Food
7. Noilly Prat (much nicer than Dry Martini)
8. Wine

8 Things to do before I die:

1. Get to see my grandchildren grow up
2. See some great grandchildren (but not just yet – my grandchildren are too young!)
3. Finish reading all the books I have bought
4. Re-learn French
5. Live some more years, in fact as many as possible, in reasonably good health
6. Win the Lottery (and I never buy a ticket!)
7. Learn to park the car straight in its bay.
8. Have enough money to do some travelling (see 6)

8 Things I often say:

1. Pifflebunk!
2. Love you
3. Bang! (The sound the sun makes as it goes over the yardarm!)
4. I hate doing the laundry!
5. Just the one, then
6. Oh well, if you insist...
7. Chiz Chiz (or something similar)
8. Bugges (originated as a typo and has stuck)

8 Books I've read recently:

1. Martin Cruz Smith: Stalin’s Ghost
2. Douglas Lindsay: The Haunting of Barney Thomson
3. Iain Banks: The Wasp Factory
4. C.J. Sansom: Dissolution
5. Ian Rankin: Exit Music
6. Conn Iggulden: The Wolf of the Plains
7. Gianrico Carofiglio: The Past is a Foreign Country
8. Fred Vargas: Sans Feu Ni Lieu

8 Songs that mean something to me: (Only 8?!!)

1. Queen : Bohemian Rhapsody
2. Pink Floyd: Shine on you Crazy Diamond
3. Pink Floyd: The Wall
4. Queen: We are the Champions
5. Dire Straits: Brothers in Arms
6. The Animals: House of the Rising Sun
7. Rolling Stones: Paint it Black
8. Dean Martin: Little ol’ Wine Drinker Me

8 Qualities I look for in a friend:

1. Sense of humour
2. Loyalty
3. Good listener
4. Intelligence
5. Mild Alcoholism (thanks for this one, Mousie)
6. Discretion
7. Someone who is not a stick insect (I would find that very hard to cope with)
8. Someone who shares some of my interests

8 people I'm passing this on to:

Mousie didn’t tag me, but I took it up anyway. In the same manner I am not going to tag anyone else, but feel free to carry it on

Love the lists! Thanks for not 'tagging' - if I've understood the concept, it's really another form of chain-mail, which snarls up the email system (like fake virus warnings etc). A bit of maths tells you what happens when you send things on to 8 or 10 others, with instructions to them to send to 8 or 10 more... even allowing for loops (a friend of a friend may send it back to originator).
Much love

Yes. If you take a chess board and put 1 grain of wheat on the first square, 2 on the second, 4 on the third etc, by the time you reach the 64th square you are going to put 2 to the power of 64 grains of wheat on it. At this time of nighy I can't be bothered to calculate how many grains that is, but it is a LOT.

(There was a story or fable that used this to make a point, but I can't remember now what it was.)

Great song list! I'd never have pegged you as a Pink Floyd fan! I loved "The Wasp Factory" too. That was my first I.Banks novel.

Hope you're feeling better after your fall.

Thank you litteacornman. Feeling fine now.

I have owned "The Wasp Factory" for quite some time now and didn't read it as I was put off by the reviews. Then I realised how much I had enjoyed the rest of Iain Banks books, so plucked up the courage to go for it. Glad I did.

It is not a run of the mill book, and is paricularly interesting as a first novel, as it is quite harrowing.

Definitely worth the effort.

re Pink Floyd - it was hard to choose as I enjoyed so much for so many different reasons. The same goes for Queen. In fact - how did I stop there in my list?
