A Further Musical Evening.....

..... of a completely different sort.

Yesterday evening TBSITW took me to the lovely Culross Abbey to hear The Westminster Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir sing

Culross Abbey deserves a whole blog to itself. From 450 till the founding of the Abbey in 1217 by Malcolm, Earl of Fife, there was a “Culdee” or Celtic Christian Church on the site. A great deal of the original building is in ruins, but much has been restored and it is still in use as the Abbey Church in the village.

I should explain that Culross is in West Fife, West of the City of Dunfermline, looking South across the Forth to the Pentland Hills.

It was a wonderful experience to sit in its pews yesterday and listen to this choir. They come from North Carolina with a guest conductor and organist. The concert, with an eclectic mix of classical, modern and spiritual music was over far too quickly.

If you ever get the opportunity to hear them again another year, grab it.

The choir ranged in age from one young (early teen?) to two elderly, but mostly in between (looked young to me - like policemen and doctors).

Today back home to do a small washing in readiness for the next trip on Tuesday, to stay with elder son.

Oh, bless you - it was a wonderful and moving and thrilling evening. I can't express adequately how it moved me, and the setting too.

Wow another great outting! On my one short visit to England we did a bus tour and saw several cathedrals and Tintern Abby. The workmanship was so amazing.

You asked about Laura's car. She won't be able to drive by herself for more than a year, so there won't be any extra driving yet. She will do the driving for her mom with mom and/or dad in the car. by the time she has her regular license she will have a job and will have to pay her own way.

Scotland is the most lovely setting for life that I can imagine.

One day, Elaine, you're gonna reap what you sow! You just like upsetting us old fogies with your scrummy grub, beautiful choirs in unbelievable settings, card-sharping (!!), etc., and one day you'll get some back from us! lol.

Sounds lovely, I had a great time visiting the abbeys of melrose, jedburgh, dryburgh and kelso the last time I was in scotland and I love the architecture and the aweness they inspire.

Sounds like you had a great time. Hope you are not visited by a deluge of water today :-)
