Bridge and Chicken Soup

Yesterday, as predictable for a Monday, was bridge day so I duly drove to the bridge club. The wind was still cold, but the sun was shining, so the car was lovely and warm (the heater doesn’t usually kick in over such a short distance). Our leader was so pleased to see so many attend yesterday as she thought a lot of people might stay away for Easter Monday. I heard from last week’s partner that we had come fourth. This was a pleasant surprise as we thought we had done badly, but in fact the hands we had to play were just poor ones.

This week I played with a different partner, but one I have played with several times before. She is rather unadventurous as a bidder, but plays the hands well.

Came home to tea as usual with the Scrabble crowd, and passed on my last jigsaw to one of them.

I had taken a pack of six large chicken drumsticks from the farmers' market out of the freezer the night before and so I wrapped 3 in foil, and cooked them in the oven, and started to make soup with the other 3 using the last onion from my vegetable box – so that’s it finished completely before today’s delivery – and some chopped leeks from the freezer. I shall add some carrot today, I think. With yesterday’s roast chicken drumsticks I had potato salad, beetroot and tomatoes.

Must remember to get some lettuce.

On re-reading this I had a giggle at the title - no, no bridge went into the soup!
