Yesterday my vegetable box arrived and I got potatoes, onions and carrots, turnip, 2 beautiful Savoy with tight hearts and a purple tinge, broccoli, and another vegetable which I did not recognise. Phoned the farm shop and found out that they were Jerusalem artichoke – will have to look up a recipe for them. I also got 2 oranges, 2 apples and 2 pears as well as the usual half dozen eggs.
In terms of “how to cook vegetables”, rather than recipes, although they have plenty of the latter, The Good Housekeeping Cookery book is the best.
I finished off the soup and went to carry a plate of it through to the table to have for my lunch, when it overflowed a bit on to the kitchen floor. Well here I had no option but to get down on my hands and knees and wash the floor, as it was a case of either I did that or I ran the risk of slipping on the grease on the floor, and possibly doing myself an injury.
So I did it – and I got upright again!
Then the best sister in the world brought me some grapes and raspberries and a lettuce from the farm shop.
I scoffed the grapes in very short order.
A quiet evening with a meal of chicken drumsticks. Lettuce, tomatoes beetroot, and potato salad.
