I mentioned on Monday that I hoped to have found a partner.
Well, this morning she telephoned and came round for coffee. We had a bit of a chat about our backgrounds and then talked bridge talk. We have decided to play together every Monday (apart from this coming Monday when she can't make it) and that we shall meet on a Wednesday morning for bridge talk. I mentioned that I had been given a tutorial book when I started, but didn't find it helpful on my own, so we are going to have a look at it next week.
Oh, I am so excited!
It has been so long since I had a regular partner, and from our chat I think we can get on all right with playing. The idea is that we will just play on a Monday at the club (and of course the Wednesday learning bit) with a view to playing regularly on a Tuesday evening too. This latter is described as "social bridge" but is quite cutthroat!

"Noilly Prat, originally a dry white vermouth from Marseillan, in the Hérault département of Southern France. Joseph Noilly, a herbalist, developed the first formula in 1813. It was the first example of a dry vermouth and led to white vermouths being known as "French". Red and amber versions are more recent and less widely known. Noilly Prat is 18% alcohol by volume."
Imagine... all that information, and not a mention of the pronunciation! (The above is from the Wikipedia website)
Good luck with your Bridge! I will have to also look that up, as I have no idea how to play.

Wow Marcheline. I never thought of looking Noilly Prat up in Wikipedia - I just drink the stuff ;-)
Become a cardsharp, eh? Methinks you can make a few bucks here, Elaine. I can just see the other players heads drop as you enter the room - the inevitability of defeat!
How nice you have found a bridge partner!! I hope you both enjoy your Mondays, and I hope it improves your game :-))
Oh dickiebo - you always have le mot juste. Many thanks for all the laughs.
